Why does the agent registry matter?
Under arts. 156-160 of Turkish IP Code 6769, only persons registered in the TÜRKPATENT agent registry may represent clients in trademark and patent filing, monitoring, and defence proceedings. An unregistered "patent consultant" may transact on their own behalf, but cannot file with TÜRKPATENT on your behalf or manage your file.
Agent registry numbers are issued to those who pass the patent-agent examination, set by the Ministry of Justice at a level equivalent to the Bar exam. The number does not change and is kept active through annual dues and continuing education.
Fake-agent fraud
The "fake patent agent" scam is unfortunately widespread in Türkiye. Typical scenarios:
- A phone call: "I'm from Asil Patent, the fee has gone up, please transfer to this IBAN immediately."
- A fake invoice with Asil's logo, but from a different email domain.
- A WhatsApp message with a fake registration certificate from a non-official number.
- Persons who refuse to give a registry number, or provide an invented one.

@asil.com.tr; do not trust "Asil" emails from any other domain. - Check the IBAN: our official payments go through a single corporate account; we do not issue verbal instructions to use a different IBAN.
