KOSGEB Trademark and Patent Support 2026: A Step-by-Step Application
KOSGEB supports part of an SME's trademark, patent, utility-model and design registration costs. Who is eligible, which costs are covered, how to apply, and how it runs in parallel with the registration process.
For an SME, registering a trademark, patent or design is not only a protection step; it is also an investment for which you may benefit from state support. KOSGEB lightens this cost by supporting part of the industrial-property registration expenses. This article summarises the logic of the support and the application steps — because current amounts and rates can change each year, we point you to the official source rather than quoting fixed figures.
What does the support do?
Within KOSGEB's enterprise-development support programmes, part of SMEs' industrial-property registration costs (trademark, patent, utility model, industrial design) is supported on a grant basis. The logic is simple: the state covers part of the cost so that SMEs protect their intellectual assets through registration.
Important: The support rates, ceilings and application windows are updated by KOSGEB through annual notices. The steps below describe the process; for current figures and dates, always rely on KOSGEB's official announcement (kosgeb.gov.tr) or your attorney.
Which costs can be covered?
While this varies by programme and year, the following items are typically considered within scope:
- TÜRKPATENT application and registration fees
- Attorney service fee (trademark/patent agent fee)
- Related consultancy costs
How much of each item is covered depends on that year's conditions for the programme you apply to.
Who can apply?
- SMEs registered in the KOSGEB database.
- Businesses meeting the SME definition (headcount + financial thresholds).
- Applicants meeting the specific conditions of the relevant support programme.
Individual applicants and large enterprises outside the SME definition may fall outside these SME-focused programmes; for them, R&D incentives or Ministry of Trade programmes may be more suitable.
Step-by-step application
- KOSGEB registration: Make sure your business is registered in the KOSGEB database and your SME declaration is up to date.
- Programme selection: Identify the current support programme covering industrial-property costs (programme names can change year to year).
- Registration filing: File your trademark/patent/design application via TÜRKPATENT EPATS; keep the fee and attorney-cost documents.
- Support application: Apply to KOSGEB through the relevant programme with the expense documents.
- Payment/offset: Once approved, the support is paid under the programme's rules.
At Asil we run the process end to end and open the registration filing and the support file in parallel — so that the fee and attorney-cost documents are prepared correctly for the support application from the start.
KOSGEB or Ministry of Trade?
The two programmes serve different purposes:
| Programme | Focus | Typical scope |
|---|---|---|
| KOSGEB | Domestic industrial-property registration | An SME's trademark/patent/design registration costs |
| Ministry of Trade | Overseas trademark/design registration and promotion | Foreign registration + fair/promotion costs |
For firms that export, or plan to, these two can be used together: KOSGEB for domestic registration, the Ministry of Trade for foreign registration and promotion. We covered the logic of the overseas support earlier in If you have an EU trademark, which state supports can you use.
A common mistake
Many businesses that want to benefit from the support research it after filing the registration, and then run into document/timing mismatches. The right order: first clarify the suitable programme and its conditions, then advance the registration and support files together.
To plan your industrial-property registration together with the right incentive file, see our Incentives & R&D Consulting service page, and see an estimated registration cost with the Fee Calculator.
