Fake-Agent Warning: Verifying Yourself Against Fraud Done in Asil Patent's Name

If someone has demanded payment from you in Asil Patent's name: verify our TÜRKPATENT registry, do not pay, confirm via our main line.

Fake-patent-agent fraud is common in Türkiye. If someone has demanded a payment from you "on behalf of Asil Patent", verify first — do not pay. This article describes the typical fraud scenarios, the verification paths, and the legal process to follow.

Typical fraud scenarios

"Fees are going up" pressure: "I'm calling from Asil Patent, fees are going up, transfer to this IBAN immediately." Asil never uses this tone. The TÜRKPATENT tariff changes at the start of each year, not within a day.

Fake invoice: an invoice with Asil's logo but from a different email domain. Our official correspondence comes only from @asil.com.tr.

Unfamiliar IBAN: a verbal instruction to a different bank account. Asil's official account is pre-notified via email.

Fake registration certificate: "your registration certificate is ready" for an application that has not been registered. TÜRKPATENT registration certificates are delivered digitally through your attorney.

"Patent consultant" without a registry number: persons who do not share a registry number or quote a fictitious one. Real attorneys never hide their registry number.

  1. Make no further payment. Cut the contact.

  2. Preserve the evidence. Call records, email headers, message screenshots, bank-transfer receipts.

  3. Urgent preliminary application to your bank. If the transfer was made in the last 24 hours, the bank may be able to halt it.

  4. Criminal complaint to the Chief Public Prosecutor. Under Turkish Criminal Code art. 158 (aggravated fraud). Complaint petition: dates, record numbers, bank receipts, communication evidence.

  5. Asil provides legal support against fraud committed in our name. No fee is charged from clients for this; we share responsibility in tracking down fraud carried out in our name.

Agent registry — practical notes

Under SMK arts. 156-160, only persons listed on the agent registry can represent clients before TÜRKPATENT in trademark or patent matters. The registry:

  • Is issued to the individual, not to a firm
  • Is granted after passing the TÜRKPATENT agent exam
  • Is kept active with annual dues + continuing education
  • Has a permanent number (188 is permanent)
  • Is searchable on the TÜRKPATENT agent-search portal by firm name or registry number

Fake social-media accounts

Fake accounts using "Asil Patent" can appear on Instagram, Facebook or LinkedIn. Our official social-media handles are listed on the About page; do not trust any other accounts.

Anonymised case

A Kayseri tradesperson received a call in 2024 allegedly "from Asil Patent". "Pay the ₺8,500 renewal fee to this IBAN," they were told. The tradesperson called us on our main line; the actual renewal date for their trademark was 18 months away. No payment was made; a criminal complaint was prepared, and the fraud did not succeed.
