How long does Turkish trademark registration take? 2026 timeline (TÜRKPATENT EPATS)
The TÜRKPATENT trademark registration process averages 6–12 months. Preparation, EPATS filing, formal examination, absolute-grounds review, bulletin publication, registration — a step-by-step timeline.
People asking about trademark registration timelines usually want to hear two things: how long it takes and what the steps are. This article presents a step-by-step timeline based on TÜRKPATENT's EPATS system for 2026. The average is 6–12 months; here we explain what happens inside that window.
Overall timeline
A standard trademark application (single class, no refusal grounds, no third-party opposition):
Day 0 → Preparation (PoA, pre-search)
Day 1 → EPATS filing, fees paid
Day 14-30 → Formal examination completed
Day 60-120 → Absolute-grounds examination completed
Day 120-180 → Bulletin publication begins (2-month window)
Day 180-240 → Registration certificate issued (1–2 months)
Total: approximately 6–8 months.
Factors that can extend the timeline
Formal deficiency notice: if TÜRKPATENT issues a deficiency, your attorney must respond within 2 months. This may add +2–4 months.
Absolute-grounds refusal: if a refusal is issued under SMK art. 5, an appeal is filed within 2 months. YİDK review may add +6–12 months.
Third-party opposition: if an opposition is filed during publication, the defence process begins. May add +6–12 months.
Well-known-mark opposition: if the opposition comes from a well-known mark holder, the process is more complex.
For complex files the total may reach 18–24 months.
The EPATS system
Since 2017, TÜRKPATENT accepts all trademark filings only via EPATS. No paper filings. Access to EPATS is possible through:
- e-Devlet (Turkish e-government portal)
- e-signature
- Mobile signature
Your attorney handles the file on your behalf under a power of attorney.
Can I shorten the time?
Official examination times depend on TÜRKPATENT's workload; the attorney cannot shorten them. "Express" handling on Asil's side means putting your file at the top of our priority list; TÜRKPATENT's own times do not change, but our preparation and response time is maximised.
Do not delay these steps
- Power-of-attorney signature: must be ready before filing.
- Response to deficiency notice: missing the 2-month window terminates the application.
- Response to opposition: the 1-month window is critical.
- Registration certificate fee: paid at the certificate-issuance stage.
